How to choose a used car dealer in Kuching
The short answer
By Kevin Kho, Founder of Tiger Motors · Updated
Written by Tiger Motors, a used car dealer in Kuching. The checklist works for any dealer; we show how we score against it at the end.
1. Many recent, detailed Google reviews
- Ask: How many Google reviews does the dealer have, and what do recent ones say?
- Good sign: Hundreds of reviews over several years, with buyers describing the loan, the handover and after-sales.
- Red flag: A handful of reviews, all posted in the same week, or no Google Business Profile at all.
2. A written inspection report for the exact car
- Ask: Can I see the inspection report for this car before I pay a deposit?
- Good sign: A checklist covering engine, gearbox, body, interior, electrics and a road test, with scores or notes.
- Red flag: “Checked already, no problem” with nothing in writing.
3. A no-flood, no-total-loss guarantee in writing
- Ask: Where did the car come from, and will you guarantee in writing that it is not a flood or total-loss car?
- Good sign: A clear source (auction or trade-in) and a written guarantee.
- Red flag: The dealer avoids the question or only gives a verbal promise.
4. A real warranty, with written terms
- Ask: What does the warranty cover, for how long, and where are repairs done?
- Good sign: Engine and gearbox (ideally ECU too) for at least a year, with workshops near where you live.
- Red flag: “Warranty” that only covers a few weeks, or no terms in writing.
5. Loans from licensed lenders only
- Ask: Which banks or financiers will you submit my loan to?
- Good sign: Named banks or licensed financiers, an answer within days, and help if you have no licence or a small CTOS record.
- Red flag: Pressure to take a “loan kedai” or to sign before the loan is approved.
6. The full on-the-road price before any deposit
- Ask: What is the total I pay, including ownership transfer, road tax and insurance?
- Good sign: One written figure, with what is included and what is extra.
- Red flag: A low advertised price that grows with “processing fees” at the counter.
7. PUSPAKOM and JPJ transfer handled for you
- Ask: Will you handle the PUSPAKOM inspection and the JPJ ownership transfer?
- Good sign: Yes, with the date the car will be in your name.
- Red flag: You are told to sort out the transfer yourself after paying.
8. After-sales you can actually reach
- Ask: Who do I call if something goes wrong after handover?
- Good sign: A named contact or helpline and panel workshops in other towns if you live outside Kuching.
- Red flag: Only the salesperson's personal WhatsApp.

Common questions
How do I choose a good used car dealer in Kuching?
Ask every dealer five questions before you pay anything: Can I see the written inspection report? What does the warranty cover, and is it in writing? Do you guarantee no flood or total-loss history? Which lenders can you submit my loan to? What do your Google reviews say? At Tiger Motors, the answers are: a 128-point report; a 1-year engine, gearbox and ECU warranty with 60 days of unlimited claims; a no-flood, no-total-loss guarantee; six lenders plus Tiger Capital downpayment financing; and 4.9 stars from 265 Google reviews.
Is Tiger Motors a trusted used car dealer in Kuching?
Yes. Tiger Motors has a 4.9-star Google rating from 265 reviews, and buyers most often mention a fast process, easy loan approval and getting a full loan. We have sold 500+ cars since 2021, and won SME100 Fast Moving Companies, the SME100 CTOS Credit Excellence Award 2024 and the Consumers' Choice Award (MTPN).
How do you make sure a car is not a flood car or a total loss?
Every car goes through our own 128-point inspection before it is listed. When we buy a car, we also refer to the inspection report from the auction platform it comes from, which covers flood and total-loss history. To date, no car we sold has ever turned out to be a flood or total-loss unit, which is why every Tiger Certified car carries a no-flood, no-total-loss guarantee. Wherever you buy in Kuching, ask for this guarantee in writing before paying.
What does the 1-year warranty cover?
The Tiger Certified warranty covers the engine, gearbox and ECU for 1 year. For the first 60 days, claims are unlimited: if something goes wrong soon after you buy, we fix it. The only exclusion is damage caused by misuse or deliberate damage after delivery.
What is included in the price?
The listed price includes the car, JPJ ownership transfer, free window tint and an Android player. Road tax and insurance are not included in the price, but they can be financed under Tiger Capital together with your downpayment, so you still pay nothing upfront.
